Fear of Rejection

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

About the time you think you have arrived at total freedom, the Spirit gently taps your shoulder and brings to your attention another area in which He wants to work on your spiritual health. This happened to me this past week.

I’m driving to meet a friend for coffee, when the Spirit, in response to a question I asked him, “What is going on within my soul?” spoke ever so softly, “You need to attach to others.” Now, this may sound strange to you, but I immediately knew what the Spirit meant.

You see as a child, to survive some of the painful moments in my life, I disassociated myself from whatever situation, or more importantly people, who were causing me pain. Worse yet, as a child who truly couldn’t understand why I wasn’t as accepted as others, and to deal with the pain of rejection, I emotionally and relationally detached. This shattered my emotional and spiritual health.

Now, back to my coffee date, sitting with my sweet friend, she listened as I processed the unresolved emotions; remembering the first time I felt rejection. I immediately implemented the spiritual health tools Brave Enough to Change has taught me. I identified what I was feeling, when I first felt it, what lie was spoken, and what truth replaces the lie. Next, I knew what needed to happen and I asked the Spirit to help me walk back into a relationship, emotionally attach myself, and choose to not live in fear of rejection.

That’s not all! As if the Spirit needed to cement in what He was saying to me yesterday, today, I came across this quote, “We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are” (Anais Nin 1961). So much truth in so few words! And then, I’m reminded of Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind!”

I love the Spirit! I love Jesus! I love how much I feel loved by God! He truly wants me, us, to live the abundant life he promises us in John 10:10. I am so grateful for the documentation of my journey through spiritual health with Brave Enough to Change and I am so grateful for my sisters who are walking the road with me. I am blessed, but my heart is heavy for others who need to know Brave Enough has tools that can help them, too.
